Police Constable Mahaboob Wohedally was wanted by the Police since four day, he was suspected to be the brain of the group causing the racial incidents on the pilgrims going to Grand Bassin last week. He turned himself in at the Central Investigation Department, Casernes headquaters yesterday morning.

This inhabitant of Vacoas was accompanied by his counsel Alim Bocus. After his arrest, he was interrogated about the incidents which took place at Quinze-Cantons for seven hours.

The Sergent Shakeel Dussoruth and the police constable Sharon Lamarque were released after being presented at the Curepipe District Court yesterday. They paid bail worth Rs 10,000 and a recognizance of a value of Rs 25,000. They are accused of complicity and to have faked the the number plate in the diary book of the police.

Mohamad Massi Ullah Hossany, Ziyaad Wohedally, Reza Lallmohamed are suspected to participate in this vandalism act and they remain in police custody. Lallmohamed will be presented before the Bail & Remand Court on the 27th February and the two others the following day.

The Mauritius Sanatan Dharma Temples Federation and the Voice of Hindu have condemned this act of racism and want the culprits to be severely punished.

Cases involving Mauritian Police constables, inspectors, sergeants are becoming very regular.

The Bagatelle Mall of Mauritius has presented on Tuesday the required permits which were asked by the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development after the controversy surrounding the used water pollution from the mall.

The Ministry has issued a Prohibition Notice against discharging effluent onto land to Bagatelle Mall and the management will have to pay a fine of Rs 50,000.

The Environmental Police has warned the management of the largest mall of Mauritius concerning used water detected at the exit of the drain leading to Martingale River. The team at Bagatelle Mall has done all the necessary investigations immediately to identify the source of this problem and it was clearly and precisely localised. The origin of this problem is an overflow of used water to wash the zone where the dustbins are kept.

Measures has been taken to solve this problem and to ensure that it does not happen again. In the meantime the drain has been temporary blocked.

The Marketing manager of the Bagatelle Mall of Mauritius, Caroline Cortot explains that the Bagatelle Mall of Mauritius is a project where all construction phase has been well planned by experts with the aid of the authorities.

It is very hot in Mauritius these days, Mauritians are sweating and the heat is becoming unbearable. Some ladies are wearing short dress to go to work. The temperature has set new records during the weekend and at the start of this week with temperatures which are four degrees above normal.

The highest temperature was registered in Port Louis which recorded 35 degrees Celsius. The humidity level was at an average of 80% in the island.

Mauritians will have to bear this strong heat until next week. According to the Meteo, the temperature will remain high during three more days. The average temperature in Port Louis will be 33 degree Celsius while it will be about 28 degree Celsius in Vacoas. We will have to wait until the next weekend for a decrease in temperatures.

The strong heat and humidity is harmful for health. People should drink a lot of water to prevent dehydration and to protect from the sun rays, it is best not to walk in the sun if not necessary. People going to the beach must put a skin sun protection since strong sun rays can cause skin cancer.

Drinking alcoholic drinks also cause dehydration.

Tourists coming from Europe escaping from the cold weather conditions will surely enjoy the current weather in Mauritius, the weather will not be unbearable for them.

In Geordie Shore S2E4, we will see the return of Charlotte in Geordie Shore House where she is united with her friends. It is Gaz who persuades her to come back and they do not take much time to be together in the bedroom doing enjoying. All the Geordie Shore crew were very happy to see her back.

In Geordie Shore Season 2 Episode 4, we will also see Vicky break up with her boyfriend Dan. The reason is obviously
Ricci, she is too much fond of him now. But Dan will not give up his boyfriend so easily and will fight to get her back. Vicky also visits Ricci parents where the love birds slept together, i should not tell you what happened afterwards. Ricci wasted to time and bedded lovely Vicky.
But the main question is how will Vicky feel next week after having cheated on her boyfriend? any ideas?

There is also a very funny moment in this week’s show. The famous fart which happened while Charlotte and Gaz was making love.

At 16:00 this afternoon, moderate cyclone Hilwa was situated at 70 km East of Rodrigues. It is moving at 10 km/h in the North-West direction. Although there is no cyclone warning in Rodrigues, torrential rain is expected in the island today.

Hilwa is the 10th cyclone of this season, it was named by the Meteorological Station of Vacoas on the 20th February 2012. Hilwa will be at the nearest point of Rodrigues in the afternoon today.

After Ethel, the moderate tropical cyclone Hilwa represents a danger for Rodrigues. It will be at 100 KM North East of Rodrigues coasts tomorrow.

Although Hilwa is a threat for the Rodrigues, the Meteorological station will not issue a cyclone warning until 22:00 tonight. There are no cyclonic winds at the center of the cyclone.

There will be torrential rain in Rodrigues tonight. According to a forecaster at the Mauritius Meteorological station, the cloud masses associated with Hilwa will bring a lot of rain.

The Turkish journalists of TV8 are in Mauritius since Wednesday 15th February to do a media coverage on the Mauritian culture which will be broadcast in Turkey as from the 3rd March. This will surely help to increase Mauritius visibility in Turkey.

The Turk media channel will do a coverage on the various touristic products which the Mauritian destination offers and it will be shown on the popular TV episode Gülhan’ın Galaksi Rehberi (Gullan’s Guide to the Galaxy). The 40 minute episode presented by Gülhan Şen will on shown on TV8 on the 3,10 and the 17th March 2012, the show airs every Saturday at 11:00 in Turkey.

The production of this episode is also  for a competition by the Air France company. The show will highlight the various tourist attractions of the island such as the golf, the water activities and beautiful places to visit such as Casela, Trou-aux-Cerfs.

The LUX*  Island Resort Hotel has also collaborated with the Tv8 team in the production of this coverage.

The journalists will profit from the Maha Shivaratri celebrations in the island to shoot photos of the festival at Grand Bassin.

Gülhan’ın Galaksi Rehberi has featured Moldova, Kenya and Maldives, Lisbon, Benin, Saudi Arabia in its previous episodes, Gullan’s Guide to the Galaxy has an audience of 10 Million in Turkey.

Liverpool are through to their first quarter final in six years. They will fancy their chances for the double this season. Liverpool wins by 6-1, three own goals in the match, the reds will play against Stoke in the Quarter finals.  Liverpool scored in the 5th minute with a clear header from MartinSkrtel. Brighton has struggled during the whole match from set pieces situations. Brighton’s only bright moment in the match was in the 17th minute equaliser by K. LuaLua.

There was a final finish from Andy Carroll in the 57th minute, Downing passed the ball beautifully to him and the big man moved well to get at the end of the pass. There was two own goals from L. Bridcutt in the 44th and 71st minute.

There was a poor penalty for Suarez but he got his goal for the sixth goal of the match, the assist was from Andy Carroll with a fine header.  Liverpool must replicate their cup form in the Premier League in order to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

An accident happened at around 3:00 this morning, nine pilgrims who were coming from Grand Bassin were hit by a van. The accident took place at Petrin which is 2 KM from Grand-Bassin. The nine injured people were rushed to the hospital and their health condition is very serious. The cause of this accident is still unknown and there is an ongoing police investigation.

Maha Shivaratri

The Maha Shivaratri is the most celebrated festival every year by Hindus in India, Mauritius and other countries in reverence to Lord Shiva. This year 500,000 pilgrims are expected at Grand Bassin, every year there are thousands of people all over the island who flock to the sacred lake.

Grand Bassin, the sacred lake in Mauritius Video

The rituals for Maha Shivaratri consist of the bathing of the linga with water, milk and honey, and Wood apple or bel leaves added to it symbolizing the purification of the soul. The fast, the pilgrimage to Grand Bassin and The Big Night of Shiva (Char Pahar Ke Puja) are very important.

The Maha Shivaratri must consist of the following six important items:

1. Betel Leaves – The offering of the betel leaves (betel) represents the satisfaction from worldly pleasures

2. Vermillion paste (sindoor)- applying sindoor on the linga represents virtue.

3. Food items such as fruits are offered to the lord to ensure that all the desires in the lifetime are fulfilled.

4. Incense sticks is lighted in front of the lord to gain wealth.

5. Lamp (Diya) – The lighting of the lamp signifies the attainment of knowledge

Forms of Shiva

Lord Shiva appears in many forms, some of them are Shivalingam, Mahadeva, Harihara, Bhairava, Panchanana and Nataraja.

In this form, Shiva is seen meditating with the moon in his hair, holding the trident and drum.

Nataraj is another form of Shiva, Shiva’s Nataraj’s dance represents both the destruction and the creation of the universe. Shiva’s dance symbolises the eternal rhythm life and death which never ends. In the form of the lord of the dance, Shiva is seen giving “darshan” to his devotees and at the same time he crushes the demon of ignorance called Apasmara Purusha. Shiva comes in the form of Nataraj for the welfare of the world.

Shiva is also known as “Trimurti”. In the trimurti, In the Trimurti, Shiva is the destroyer, while Brahma and Vishnu are creator and preserver. The three white lines on the “shivling” drawn by the priests indicates these three characteristics.

Maha Shivarati in Mauritius

In Mauritius, Maha Shivaratri is celebrated with great devotion. Hindus start preparations three weeks before the festival. Some Pilgrims carry “Kanwars” to Grand Bassin, the sacred lake discovered by Pandit Gosain Naipaul.

This year, 500,000 people are expected to go to Grand Bassin. Pilgrims living in the North of the island began their journey to Grand Bassin on Wednesday.

Devotees spend sleepless nights to decorate and build kawars which they will carry to the sacred lake.

The family was coming back from a night of prayer at Grand Bassin for Maha Shivaratri. The six victims – Two brothers, their wives and two children was on board the car to return at their place.

But unfortunately, at Beau-Vallon, a small village located in the South of Mauritius, the vehicle left the road and hit a tree violently. The outcome of this terrible accident resulted in one dead and five other passengers injured. This tragedy took place in the morning today at around 5:00. 27-year-old Aarti has died on the spot. The victims were admitted at J.Nehru hospital in Rose Belle. They are suffering from multiple injuries. According to a relative of the victims, the driver felt asleep on the wheels which caused the car to hit a “pied la fourche” tree.

There was another accident at Palma, Quatre Bornes today when a car left the road and hit a man who was standing in front of the store. The man has been seriously injured. The owner of the store is still shocked by this accident. She said she heard a loud noise and when she went outside, a terrible sight was in front of her, a man was lying injured hit by the car.

This is the third road accident in less than 24 hours, yesterday morning a CNT bus overturned at Pont Colville, 25 passengers were injured.

The police has advised people not to drive if they are feeling sleepy or tired.
