Lady Gaga drops the machine-gun bra costume from tour after intense criticism
LADY Gaga has dropped the machine-gun bra from her concert tour after worldwide outrage over the costume.
Gaga was criticised for brandishing the outfit – which consisted of two plastic assault rifles strapped to each cup – just a month after twenty six people were killed in a US school massacre.
Gaga had donned the “insensitive” garb just days ago during her concert in Vancouver, Canada, but downed the weapons for her first concert in the US.
The 26-year-old performed in Tacoma, Washington to kick off the American leg of her Born This Way Ball tour with just a simple crop top bra.
“@newscomauhq she took the guns & gun bra out of the show last night!!” tweeted Twitter user, Niko, who was at the concert.
“She just wears a regular bra instead of the gun bra now.”
Sharon Osbourne was among those who criticised the singer for wearing the garb after 20 children and six adults were killed in a horrific massacre at Connecticut’s Sandy Hook primary school on December 14 last year.
“Everything is guns, guns, guns,” she said, referencing the outfit.
“This is not right, and she should be stopped.”
“All I’m asking her to do is to stay true to her foundation, which she said [she created because] she wants the world to be a braver, kinder world,” Sharon explained.
She was also slammed by anti-gun groups, who said they has hoped she would have a “better sense of judgement.”
Twitter users also condemned her use of the garmet so soon after the US massacre.
“26 People lost their lives at Newtown.Commemorates by wearing a ‘gun bra’ #Heartless,” wrote one.
“DISGUSTING! SO WRONG! Lady Gagas Gun Bra is Tasteless and Offends Both Sides of the Guns Debate,” added another.
Gaga has so far made no comment on the outfit.
