Mauritius International University and Career Expo 2012: More than 85 Universities present
UPDATE 11/02/11 9:00: The Mauritius International University and Career Expo 2012 will not be cancelled today despite a cyclone warning class 2 is in force in Mauritius.
Mauritius International University and Career Expo 2012The Mauritius International University and Career Expo, organised by Publi Promo Ltd with the collaboration of the Rotary Club of Grand Baie will take place at the Free Port Exhibition centre, Mer-Rouge from the 10th to 12th February 2012. There are more than eighty five exhibitors participating at this Expo this year. It will be very helpful to students who are in search of a University for their tertiary education. Most of the exhibitors in this expo are from foreign institutions, some of the universities are Anglia Ruskin University, Aberystwyth University, Birmingham City University, City University London, University of Melbourne, Murdoch University, Monash University, University of La Reunion, University of Bristol, University of East Anglia, University of Glamorgan, University of Greenwich, University of Kent, University of Southampton, University of Buckingham, University of Manchester and the University of Northampton.
Local institutions will also be present at this expo, nowadays there are numerous possibilities to study in Mauritius. Some of the local institutions are the University of Mauritius, University of Technology and the Charles Telfair Institute ( CTI )
The Rotary Club of Grand Baie organises this expo since twenty years. The ministers Bunwaree and Jeetah proceeded with the official inauguration yesterday, 9 February 2012 with the presence of the President of the Rotary Club of Grand Baie, Lindsay Albert.
This is the twentieth edition of the Mauritius International University and Career Expo and the first edition took place in 1992. This year both the Ministry of Education and Human Resources and The Ministry Of Tertiary Education, Science, Research and Technology are involved in organising this expo.
Representatives of institutions from United States, United Kingdom, France, Malaysia, China, India, Australia, Reunion Island and also those based in Mauritius will be present at the Career Expo which will last till Sunday 12 February 2012.
During his speech, Linday Albert stated that this event is now in the calendar of international exhibition for tertiary education, he said that this expo has helped thousands of Mauritian students to make the right choice for their tertiary education. He also highlighted the work of his institution to help needy students lacking financial means to continue their studies.
The Minister of Education and Human Resources, Vasant Bunwaree has also announced the creation of a virtual career centre with the collaboration of the University of Reunion.
China and Malaysia tertiary institutions are the favorite for Mauritian students
Malaysia is attracting more and more Mauritian students. “About 25% of students who go abroad choose an institution in Malaysia or China. This is the latest trend as it was for British institutions before” Dorish Chitson from the Overseas Education centre ( OVEC) said.
Many students opt for studies in these Asian countries because it costs less and is almost 50% cheaper than other countries. “Studies in medicine in China costs Rs 1 Million compared to Rs 8 Million in England for six years and Rs 3 Million in Hungary” Seshadri Jayasankar, the director of Campus Abroad said.
“You feel at home in Malaysia, the culture of the country resembles that of Mauritius and the climate is similar.” the director of OVEC said.
