1. All charges against Harry Tirvengadum dropped

All the charges against the ex chief executive officer ( CEO ) of Air Mauritius, Harry Tirvengadum has been dropped by Magistrate Veronique Kwok Yin Siong Yen at the Intermediate Court yesterday.

The Magistrate took this decision based on a panel of lawyers who reported that former CEO was suffering from “anxiety, depression and high risk of coronary syndrome”.

Dr. Juggernauth, the head of the medical panel stated that the patient’s health is getting bad to worst and the probability that his health will improve is almost nil.

Mr. Harry Tirvengadum was accused of fraud of Rs 85 Million in 2001.

2. Mt Ory Spectacular road accident yesterday

There was a spectacular road accident yesterday at about 11 am at Montagne Ory near Colville Deverell Bridge. A car which had three person aboard collided with a lorry, the car was crushed from the impact. One of the three man was rushed to Victoria Hospital in Candos with serious injuries, the other two passengers are unhurt but the car, a contract Honda car was seriously damaged.

3. Ministry of Fisheries will hand over wires to fishermen to replace traps

On August 13, 2011, the South and South East regions of Mauritius were hit by heavy rainfall, 174 fishers reported the loss of their basket traps. In order to help the fishermen, the Ministry of Fisheries will hand over wires to 22 basket trap fishers. 86 Fishers from Bambous Virieux and 66 from Riambel will receive such wires to construct basket traps later on.

4. 2012 declared International Year of Cooperatives

Several activities will be organized by the Ministry of Business, Enterprise and Cooperatives in 2012 which was declared as the International Year of Commerce.

5. Forest Officer and 26-year-old man commit suicide by Hanging at Home

26-year old man Kamlesh Bagha was found hanging in his house on Monday. He used a scarf tied to a metal beam to hang himself in the corridor. The victim was depressed and the autopsy revealed he died of asphyxia.

41-year-old forest officer, Ramanand Munds from Poste de Flacq was found hanging from a rope in his house. The victim was mentally disturbed.

6. Tourist robbed of his laptop and ipod which was in his car at Trou aux Biches

Danny Scott, an Australian tourist was the victim of larceny worth Rs 50,000. His bag which had a laptop and ipod was stolen from the rear seat of his car at Trou aux Biches. The thieves unlocked the rear door to commit the larceny.

7. Air Mauritius promotional campaign a success

Air Mauritius had already sold a thousand of tickets thanks to the promotional campaign which the airline company launched in December 2011. As the campaign was very successful, Air Mauritius has therefore increased the number of promotional fair tickets. An intense campaign was launched on Monday to support these exceptional offers to various destinations.

8. BSc Nursing course at the UoM

There will be new opportunities to students who would like to pursue their tertiary education in Mauritius. The University of Mauritius will be affiliated with the University of Birmingham city, UK to offer new nursing curriculum which will lead to a Bachelor of Science ( Hons ) in Nursing. Delegates from the University of Birmingham were received by Dr Rajesh Jeetah, the minister of Tertiary Education, Science, Research and Technology, the ex vice-chancellor of the UoM, Konrad Morgan and the dean of the Faculty of Science, Hussein Subratty. The delegates are now in Mauritius for an official visit to finalise the project.
