During a press conference yesterday, the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority gave further details on the Mauritius Shopping Fiesta which will be launched on Friday and will end on Sunday, August 5. The director also mentioned the idea and objectives behind organizing such an event. Karl Mootoosamy equally underlined the opportunity for Mauritius to showcase its best products during one month. Robert Desvaux, the chairman of MTPA highlighted the importance of all Mauritians to make this event a success.
The opening of the first edition of Mauritius Shopping Fiesta will be given on Friday at 6:00 p.m. at Bagatelle-Mall of Mauritius, with lots of wonderful surprises for the public. Mauritians and tourists will be entitled to the “best of Mauritius,” stated Karl Mootoosamy this morning. “With planned activities, we aim at creating a living spirit for the fiesta,” said the MTPA director.
Thus, Karl Mootoosamy is relying on every Mauritian’s cooperation as “we wish to put forward Mauritian hospitality as well as opportunities offered by our island.” Mauritians will be able to highlight their skills, to present things differently and enjoy this event,” he adds.
Robert Desvaux claimed that Mauritius Shopping Fiesta would not have been possible without the cooperation of partners who “have demonstrated their interest and have helped since the start in implementing this project.” The MTPA Chairman also mentioned the idea behind organizing a first edition of this event and the logo on which a dodo is shopping. “Focusing on our cultural values along with the emblematic presence of this bird brings us back in history,” he said.
According to Robert Desvaux, Mauritius is well known for its hospitality, its services and its artists. “Also, its labor force in the tourism industry is the pride of the country,” says the Chairman. Thus, he underlined the importance of placing Mauritians at the center of activities for the Mauritius Shopping Fiesta to be a success. “If we want to create a tourist event, the participation of Mauritians is primordial!”
The MTPA Chairman has once again called for the participation of all traders in the country. Any interested person may still contact the institution to add the name of their shops in the official list. “We will also propose Mauritian hospitality at store level,” said Robert Desvaux who wishes to make the Mauritius Shopping Fiesta an annual event. “July could be an opportunity for the country to sell its old stocks of clothes and launch new collections. “Note that the activities will end on Sunday, August 5 with the Grand Bay Beachwear Show. Textile collection, home appliances and mobile phones for the 2012-2013 seasons will be launched on this occasion.
More than 12 000 products are listed on the official website of Mauritius Shopping Fiesta. A festive atmosphere will dominate stores at Bagatelle-Mall of Mauritius on Friday for the opening of this grandiose event. The public is invited to fill a form between 16 h and 19 h for a draw. The winner will receive an air ticket London-Mauritius-Maurice offered by British Airways. The best decorated stores will also receive a prize.
The Mauritius Shopping Fiesta will continue on Saturday at Phoenix Shopping Centre where gifts will be offered to the public. The star prizes include a BMW série 3 cabriolet, a Porsche Cayman, two Nissan Micra and a motorcycle Derbi Xtrem.
