Mauritius Wins Four Awards At the World Travel Awards 2011 in Qatar, 10.0 out of 10 based on 1 rating

Mauritius has won four awards during the World Travel Awards 2011 which took place in Doha in Qatar. Mauritius has been awarded the World’s Leading Beach Destination, the World’s Leading Island Destination, the Indian Ocean’s Leading Beach Destination and the Indian Ocean’s Leading Destination.

The Trou Aux Biches beach was awarded the World’s Leading Beach Destination and Indian Ocean’s Leading Beach Destination.

The other nominees for the World’s Leading Beach Destination were:

Mauritius has also won the World’s Leading Island Destination 2011, Mauritius has now won this prestigious award three straight times, in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

The Minister of Tourism intends to double the efforts to increase more tourists to the island, he plans to target the Nordic region which includes Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark.

” We will target other markets while consolidating the actual ones, we will put more emphasis on E-marketing in order to increase the visibility of Mauritius, Reunion Island and South Africa are also our targets”

If last year, about 965,000 tourists visited Mauritius, this year we hope to get more than 1 Million tourists. Road shows will be performed in emerging markets such as India, Russia and China. In April 2012, 30 Chinese couples will wed in Mauritius and the Chinese Media will be also present. It will be very beneficial if we can organize the Miss China Pageant in Mauritius.
