Michelle Yeoh Banned In Burma
Michelle Yeoh, the actress who plays the role of Burma’s pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi in an upcoming film has been banned from entering Burma.
Michelle Yeoh who rose to stardom as the former Bond girl, tried to enter the country on Tuesday morning, but was returned back.
An official told reporters that Michelle Yeoh is on the blacklist, and now would not be able to enter Burma.
She paid a visit to Burma earlier – in December where she met Nobel Peace winner Aung San Suu Kyi.
“She was not able to enter Myanmar (Burma) again. She was deported immediately on the first flight after arriving in Yangon (Rangoon) International Airport,” said a Burmese official.
Ms. Yeoh has traveled to Burma with the son of Aung San Suu Kyi, Kim Aris, which allowed him to enter the country earlier this month to celebrate 66th birthday of his mother.
‘Mrs.’
Ms. Yeoh portrays the life of Aung San Suu Kyi in an upcoming film, The Lady.
Directed by Luc Besson, the movie will be launched later this year.
Michelle Yeoh, who is an actress of Malaysian origin and aged 48, played a Chinese spy opposite Pierce Brosnan in the James Bond movie, Tomorrow Never Dies.
The actress was also given a role in Ang Lee martial arts, Tiger and Dragon.
Aung San Suu Kyi’s annual conference described that what the meaning of Buddhism has given to her lonely political struggle.
In 1990, the National League of Aung San Suu Kyi for Democracy won elections in Burma by a very comfortable margin.
Then spent 15 of the next 20 years under house arrest, and was finally released last November, a week after the elections under military control that marked what the government says is a return to civilian rule.
The mystery is in the movie story – but blacklisted the actress portraying looks odd – and in a way unlikely to weak interest in its projection.
