Krishnee Bunwaree, the young woman from Vallée-des-Prêtres who admitted posting a racist post on a Facebook page remains behind bars. She appeared today, 2nd August in front of the Port Louis District court where she is temporary charged with breach of Computer Misuse under The Computer Misuse And Cybercrime Act 2003.

Krishnee, 22 was denied bail and will appear again on Monday, 6 August.

She is accused of unlawfully and knowingly using a computer system to perform a function for the purpose of securing a program in the computer system with intent to commit an offence :- stirring up racial hatred- If found guilty, she can be jailed for five years and must pay a heavy fine of one million rupees.

She was arrested on Wednesday, 1st August by the Cybercrime Unit. During her interrogation, she admitted posting a racist comment on her Facebook profile on Sunday 22 July at 12:27.

This is not the first case of racism targeting certain community in Mauritius, On Topix Mauritius Forum there are daily such racists post but the authorities do not do anything.
