Rolls-Royce SUV Not Ruled Out
Rolls-Royce SUV Not Ruled Out,
Bentley, Lamborghini and Maserati all have SUVs in the pipeline, but what about Rolls-Royce? It seems that nearly every premium automaker today is either considering, planning or has already launched a crossover or SUV model. Bentley will soon begin production of a new SUV based on the EXP 9 Concept but what about its long time fellow British rival, Rolls-Royce? According to a new report coming from Australia’s Car Advice, Rolls-Royce does not have any immediate SUV plans but its Asia Pacific regional director Paul Haggis told the publication that such a model hasn’t been ruled out entirely.
The Rolls-Royce philosophy is very clear, and that is that we will never say never to anything,” stated Harris. That region’s General Manager, Dan Balmer, chimed in further stating that there are a couple of “roadblocks” standing in the way of such a vehicle. For starters, he’s concerned whether the brand’s design philosophy can successfully be transferred to an SUV, something Bentley has had a hard time doing. And secondly, any Rolls-Royce must have superior ride quality, something SUVs aren’t renowned for especially when linked up to a 4×4 drivetrain.
Even if the automaker began development on an SUV today, it wouldn’t launch until towards the end of the decade. But Harris summarized his company’s mentality best: “We’re a bit more unique and individual, and a very, very consistent brand. Everything we consider always harks back to our heritage, what people expect, etc.”
