Search continues for Ontario family’s dog that escaped from customs
An Ontario family is still hoping for a reunion with their puppy after the 12-pound, mixed Jack Russell terrier-pug escaped from a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent at the Ambassador Bridge on Friday.
The female canine named Ash has not been located, though two people e-mailed the family saying they thought they saw Ash, with at least one of the possible sightings in downtown Detroit, said Ana Wilcken, whose family from Waterloo owns the 9-month-old pooch.
“We’re still waiting for her,” Wilcken said by phone Sunday evening.
The family was on a trip to Atlanta for a Christmas visit with relatives, crossed the bridge from Windsor and entered the inspection area of the U.S. Customs plaza. It was asked to pull over and to put Ash in the customs’ cage. The family was cleared to leave and was asked to put the dog back in their car.
Niels Wilcken said before he got there, Ash escaped her leash and collar and dashed from the customs plaza. The dog is the pet of th Wilcken’s 9-year-old son, Joseph.
