UTM Lecturer Accused of Leaking Examination Papers Three days before exams
A lecturer of the UTM has been accused of giving information to a student concerning the contents of an exam paper. The University of Technology has opened an investigation.
“…. AND KEEP IT FOR YOURSELF dear. As many “pou mort vilain dan examens”.. I’ll mail you the paper ( EXAM PAPER ) 3 days before the exams that’s for sure and i am expecting an A from you and dont disappoint me. “I am doing the best, so do yours”, this is the email sent by this lecturer to this student on the 22nd October 2011 at 23:11, three weeks before the examinations. This email shows that the UTM lecturer sent contents of the examination paper to the student who shared it with another friend. It is in this way that the cheating was discovered. Both the lecturer and the student are denying the accusations.
The UTM students are very angry that some of their friends were able to get a copy of the exam paper before the examination. ” I have made a lot of sacrifices to be successful in the examination, spent many sleepless nights, the book of this module is of several hundreds pages and now we hear that some of the students had got the paper beforehand” this is terrible, a student said.
According to the students of UTM, it is not the first time that the lecturers give away exam papers to their students in order to make them pass with an “A”. The accused lecturer has said that he did not send the email and he has been teaching since several years without any cases. Concerning the student, she said that she never got any email in which the examination paper was attached. The lecturer often mails us the lectures and the assignments. She also said that she is the most brilliant student of the class, she stated that there are some students in the class who have failed and asked her to talk with the lecturer to review their marks.
The principal of the University of Technology, Dharmanand Goopt Fokeer said that he is not aware of this case, however he had a meeting with the president of the Students Union, Krishna Jadunundun to find out more.
