Wanted man Elvis Valentin was arrested after 7 years, also known as Mike, he is a mason of 29 years. The fugitive was arrested at Grand River South East in the evening. This notorious recidivist, who was awaiting trial before the intermediate court in 2005 for crimes of Larceny with violence and Damaging Property by Band, had escaped in the wild. Meanwhile, one of his accomplices was sentenced for five years in prison. During his seven years on the run, Elvis Valentine continued his robberies and is even suspected of committing rape on a minor of 15 years and molesting another girl of the same age.
The officers Sohun, Bazile, Gowseem, Ramanah and Seekunto of the CID of Goodlands, headed by Sergeant Ramasawmy, conducted a painstaking job before managing to track down Elvis Valentine. Reputed to be very dangerous, Valentine knew he was wanted for many years. Having no fixed residence, he was moving regularly with his concubine, Corinna Patient, 19 years. Valentin and her successively inhabited Batterie Cassée, Valentina, Goodlands and Laventure, before being arrested on Tuesday morning at Grand River South East.
Valentin was part of a gang that was raging in some parts of the country, seven years ago. Among the band members, another notorious recidivist was included, VikashRamdhony. Valentin and Ramdhony had been arrested and prosecuted in court, seven years ago for Larceny with violence. Ramdhony was condemned to five years in prison, served his sentence, has committed other crimes since then and is currently still behind bars.
Elvis Valentin had absconded while on bail and did not appear in Intermediary Court for trial. He was also pursued in the context of another trial for a case of Damaging property by band. He should be tried for this case.
During recent years, the accused Valentin was traveling by stolen motorcycles, bearing false number plates, along with another accomplice, Sooknah Rattan, 39, a resident of Rivière du Rempart. Sooknah, who was also actively sought by police, is the first suspect to have been arrested, about ten days ago. During interrogation by Sergeant Ramasawmy and his men, Sooknah confessed committing six robberies in the area of Goodlands, Riviere du Rempart and St. Antoine.
The suspect reveals the name of his accomplice, a man named Elvis Valentine. The CID detectives do not believe them. Each time, these two friends follow the same procedure: they travel on motorcycle, watching the couples who isolate themselves to flirt or single people, threaten their victims with swords, tie them up, hit them with the flat part of the edged weapon and rob them of their jewelries, money, their credit cards. Under threat, victims are forced to disclose their PIN number to their assailants, who then rush to withdraw money from ATMs.
Based on information provided by Rattan Sooknah to the police, the hunt for Valentin soon resumed. Initially, the mother of Valentin, Shravan Kumari, 50, was arrested. She was in possession of some stolen objects by his son, including jewelry. Elvis Valentine, after having been positively identified in the region of Grand River South East, the officers of the CID of Goodlands conducted the operation to apprehend him, early Tuesday morning. Thus, Elvis Valentine and his concubine Corinna Patient were arrested. Valentin has tried to escape but the police provisions took all precautions to prevent his escape.
